Phi Phi Islands
All about Phi Phi: islands, beaches and picturesque sunset views
In this article we will take a closer look at one of the most famous islands in Thailand - the Phi-Phi Islands. The islands got their fame thanks to the unique nature, perfectly clean sea, white beaches and, of course, the film "The Beach" starring Leonardo DiCaprio, shot in 2000. And the fact that of all the beaches in the world "ideal" producers of the film considered the beach of Maya Bay (Maya Bay) speaks volumes. But this choice was not accidental, long before the film was shot, Phi-Phi Islands became a special place for lovers of real beach holidays, Phi-Phi Don island and Ton Sai Bay village beckoned and continue to beckon young people from all over the world.
A bit of geography:
The Phi-Phi Islands are a group of 6 islands located in the south of Phang Nga Bay, 40 kilometres from Phuket Island. Territorially, the islands are part of the province of Krabi. Phi Phi Phi consists of the main island of Phi Phi Don, the most famous island Phi-Phi Ley, the perfect beach island Bambu (Koh Mai Pai, Koh Mai Pai), Mosquito Island (Koh Yung Koh Yung), as well as the famous among divers islets Koh Bida Nai and Koh Bida Nok.

How to get there, where to stay and what to visit
Most travellers come to Phi Phi to see the protected island of Phi Phi Lei and its main attractions such as Maya Bay, Peele Lagoon, Viking Cave and Samah Bay Coral Reef.
Maya Bay is by far the most famous spot on the Phi Phi islands, with pictures of the bay on almost every advertising brochure not only in Phuket, but Thailand in general. It is a deep bay with a coral sand beach, located between high (about 150 metres high) rocks. Behind the beach among tropical shrubs and a small number of palm trees there is a tent camp of rangers guarding the national park and a path to the observation deck. As stated earlier, Maya Bay became widely known after the filming of the film "The Beach".
Pileh lagoon is a deep bay with bright blue water, surrounded on all sides by high steep cliffs. Interesting because the depth of the sea in the lagoon reaches 20 metres, while at the entrance to the lagoon is only one and a half metres, the reason for this was a tectonic fault formed after the earthquake, during which collapsed gas pocket located under the bottom of the lagoon.
Viking Cave is a deep cave, a gathering place for stone swifts' nests. These nests are later exported to Asian countries as they are an expensive delicacy.
Phi-Phi Don Island is the main island of the Phi-Phi archipelago and the only inhabited island. It consists of two large limestone monoliths connected by a sandy spit. The area of the island is 28 km2, the highest point is 314 metres. The largest and most famous village is Ton Sai Bay, where most of the hotels and the pier are located. We can continue to describe this island using a lot of names and geographical terms, but we will not do it, as Ton Sai Bay is a special place, colourful, unique, with its unique energy. Many years ago this village was found by backpackers, freaks, divers, young people from all over the world, it is one of the few where the spirit of a real island holiday, utopian atmosphere of absolute freedom and joy has been preserved. Here there are no problems and no worries, all days are equally beautiful and similar to each other. It seems that people living here are only engaged in the fact that all day relaxing on the beach, or diving, and all night partying on the beach parties. In this city there are no cars and no roads, the only transport is a few mopeds, bicycles and special wheelbarrows for transporting goods. Here everyone is equal and it doesn't matter how old you are, who you are by nationality, how you are dressed and whether you have a lot of money. You want to come back here again and again. It is real, it is what it should be and it is so different from other resorts absorbed by mass tourism. To not come here is to lose a lot.
Bambu Island is a small island north of Phi Phi Don known for its unique beach and coral reef. Resembling Similan Islands in appearance, the white sand, azure sea and deserted beaches are the main attractions.
